We are a start-up winery located in the village of La Fregeneda, within the Arribes del Duero national park in the Western Spanish province of Salamanca. Our philosophy is to make quality (DO registered) wine using grapes sourced from both old and newly planted vineyards. We aim to take the best from both 'Old' and 'New' World production techniques, opting for traditional materials and minimal intervention wherever possible. At the same time we are market-driven, informed as to the latest developments in wine making techniques and meticulous with regards to matters such as winery hygiene and correct grape cultivation, selection and processing. In our first vintage of October 2005 we made a small run of around 2000 litres of red wine, made from the local grape variety ‘Juan Garcia’, as well as the internationally renowned ‘Tempranillo’. In October 2006 we increased our production to 6000 litres and moved to a new winery building. In 2011 we moved once more to our winery in La Fregeneda and annually we produce a mixture of blended vintages of around 20,000 bottles. The grapes are sourced predominantly from plots of vines (forty to eighty year old) that we had tended to and harvested by hand. In order to promote concentration of flavour we hard prune the plants so that each yields less fruit and at harvest time we pick only the healthiest of bunches. In the bodega we ferment some of the grape must in oak barrels and some in stainless steel tanks. please click on any of the site's thumbnails for a larger image |
